Default Amex Platinum and Companion Ticket

    Hi

I'm presently have the gold amex card but was thinking of upgrading to the platinum because of their new domestic companion ticket program. Has anyone had experience with this to share. It looks like a good deal to me if it works out as advertised..

I use to have the Amex, but decided to change to Amex Blue with no anual fee. If the anual fee is worth to you for the ticket, then go for it! But sometimes you can find tickets cheaper than that fee...

What is their definition of "domestic companion"? Is it to include same sex couple instead of limiting the benefits to a spouse?

I understand that domestic companion refers to traveling domestic with a companion!!! no matter who the companion is, if you are traveling together.

Well it is a definite benefit for the airlines. It is beter to have a seat filled at a discount price than it being empty and generating no revenue at all!

Are the annual fees for Amex really as much as a plane fare? Seems like a lot. But maybe this type of thing does balance out - you get one or the other.

Well, the last time I got an invitation to get the Platinum Amex, the fee was $300 a year!!! That to me is too much money!

Why would you want to pay a fee that high? I don't understand the need for a card like this.
