Discover 5% cashback onus on travel!

I have the Discover Platinum Card. They just announced on their website that from jan 07 to mar 07, you can earn 5% cash rebates on airline, cruises, hotels, car rentals, amtrak trains and greyhound buses.

I always liked this card because I like to get gift certificates as my rewards. But I thought that I mentioned this offer because nobody seems to mention the discover card as a reward card. amex and citi tends to be mentioned more often.

Yes, I do have the discover platinum..but the problem is that I do not intend to travel in the 1st quarter of this year. So unfortunately, it does me no good (for now). That is the problem with the Discover getmore cashback bonus program. The 5% cash rebate items are not fixed, but rotated once every three months.

But having said that, if you plan to travel, then I think there is no card (whether frequent flyer or any rewards card) that pays you either 5% cash back or 5 points for every dollar that you spend on travel stuff.

I will be making 2 trips this quarter - so the discover platinum 5% cash back program definitely will work for me this round. btw - it is my second card after the blue cash..

long live 5% cash rebates!
