Default Should I give up my amex gold card?

I have had the gold card for years. I used it for air miles. But I travel less these days and do not want to pay the $150 annual fee. Yet I like the membership rewards program. Should I get the blue card from amex or another reward card from citi or chase or anyone else.

I think I would still use points for the occasional airline ticket.

would like to hear your experiences with other cards.

I have the Blue card and I think it is a great card. I did not see the point of having to pay $150 in annual fee for the gold charge card. The blue has the same reward program as the amex charge cards except that you need more points to get the same number of miles (that was what customer service told me)..

I actually also have the gold card. It works great for me because of the air miles. But if you do not need the air miles, then maybe the blue should work out better.

Why would you hold on to a card where the fees are so high?

Blue has benefits and no fee. I think $150 a year is a lot! When I got the invitation for the Platinum, which back thn was $300 a year I couldn't believe they would charge such a high fee!

I think I would drop any card with an annual fee of that magnitude. It's interesting that most of the rewards are things you have actually paid for with high fees. They are far from profitable for the cardholder, IMHO.
