Default Credit card balance sent to collections

    Hello,

I have a question. I will really appreciate if someone could answer. I had a joint account on 2003. I was not the main person in the account. I was just an additional person in the account. The main person left an open balance in that account. He is not in the country anymore. I tried to pay for it but the bills would come to his address and I was living in another address. I tried to call the company to pay for this over online but since I was not the main person I was not able to get access to the account. Now this bad debt was sent to collections on 2006 or 2007 and it appears in my credit report as a bad debt and that it is in collections. All of my other credit cards are in good standing. This is the only one that gives me bad review. My question is how can I solve this. I don't know if the collections agency is trying to reach me or what??? or If I may get a court judgement because of this.. I am not in the country anymore so I am not sure how to deal with this. Any suggestions please??? - Thank you!!
Sorry I forgot to add that after this incident I was able to get a credit card from Mastercard in 2008 and I had two of my credit cards increasing my balance.

you can try pulling your credit report and disputing the charged off account through one of the credit bureaus. it may help if you kept a log of your attempts to settle the debt with the cc company.
    good luck
