Default Canadian SIN used to apply for a US credit card?!

    Hi guys,

I need an expert advise. I am a Canadian permanent resident with a Canadian SIN. I purchased something from US apple online store today and was prompted if I would like to apply for a US credit card that will enable me to pay the item I was buying in installment. I clicked yes and was asked to fill out an application form. In the application form there is a a portion there where I had to put an SSN, I don't have an SSN so I decided to put my SIN from Canada and use my mom's US address as I normally do for my US online shopping. In just a matter of 30 seconds my application was approved and I was able to use the new US credit card to pay for my apple purchase.

Now, I would like to know if that credit card application was approved because I have a US bank account with RBC Centura in Florida. This bank is an affiliate of the RBC Royal Bank in Canada. They actually used my SIN when I opened this US acct. Another reason I am thinking why the application was approved is probably because I am a extension cardholder of my mom's Capital One credit card which is issued in the US since she is a US citizen.

Or..has it been approved coz I put in my Canadian SIN which accidentally is similar to somebody else's SSN in the US?

I am happy that I got a US credit card but I am worried at the same time.

And for what's it worth, the credit limit they gave me is the same credit limit I have in my capital one extension card from my mom.

This is pretty interesting. Have never heard of this. Nevertheless, congratulations on your approval anyhow. At least you could buy itunes now from where you live. It used to be a real h***le for international folks not being able to buy itunes because they do not have a US credit card.
