Question on Previous Post for Mr. Credit Card
Dear Mr. Credit Card:
I posted this reply on the topic "which Mastercard to Use." I was afraid that it would get buried, so here it is:
Thanks, Mr. Credit Card.
However, I already have AMEX BLUE, Chase BP, and Discover Gas (these are the three I carry around). I also have the two Citi Mastercards mentioned above. I really do not want to apply for any more cards. I am sick of it.
What I really want is to use the cards which I have cards efficiently.
I currently use AMEX Blue for g***, groceries, and drugstores (5% over $6500 tier and 1.5% on all other over $6500 tier), BP Visa from Chase for restaurants and travel (2%) and as a general backup when AMEX is not accepted, and Discover Gas for all gas (5%) before I hit the $6500 AMEX tier.
What place in the lineup, if any, do ExxonMobil or Citi Simplicity have?
I do use a lot of Mobil gas. I was trying to find some way to use the ExxonMobil Mastercard, even at 3%, because Citi is a prime credit card issuer and I do think that it is a better card than Simplicity, but I don't know how it would fit in with my combo.
Any suggestions, based upon what I have?
Thanks a lot !!
Regards,
Michael

IMO, I think it is difficult to answer that unless we know your spending breakdown. But I think you are already doing all you can to max out the cash rebates that you earn from the cards that you use.

Dear Mr. Credit Card:
Thank you for your opinion. I do have another question.
I spend about $35,000 annually. maybe $300 of this is gas.
If I cut out Discover for gas, even under the AMEX $6500 tier, and use AMEX all the time for gas, I know that I will lose rebate (1% versus 5%) in the beginning. It takes me about 2 to 2 1/2 months to reach the tier.
But since I will be reaching the 5% EDP and 1.5% non-EDP on AMEX sooner, won't I be earning the higher rebates sonner, and thus, make up the rebate that I lost in the beginning.
I'm sorry. I don't know exactly how to "do the math" on this.

P.S. in prior post , I meant that I spend about $300 monthly on gas.
