I think that your advice about AMEX BLUE, BP Vissa, and Discover Gas is good advice.

However, aren't you a bit uncomfortable only carrying one Visa (or Mastercard) ? What if something happens and they only take Visa and Mastercard, and for some reason, your BP Visa does not work?

Or do you carry something else, or just the three cards (AMEX, BP, Discover)?

I know that amex or discover card is supposedly not available everywhere. But frankly speaking, I never found it to be a problem. All gas stations I go to accept discover cards. All restaurants and travel agents accept visa. Amex is accepted at all supermarkets and cvs that I go to.

The Discover Gas card is having its rebate severely limited effective 10-1-07. Go to their website and click on the link to this card, or read my prior post today, at the top of the Cash Back Forum.

Now that the Discover card is trashed, in addition to mt AMEX Blue and BP Visa, I can carry Shell Mastercard (5%) or ExxonMobil Mastercard (3%), or both, when I am under the $6500 AMEX tier.

Do you see a use for ExxonMobil? It is my only other bank card, and I do not wish to apply for any new cards.
