    Default ExxonMobil Mastercard

    I have a simple question.

Why does a gas card like ExxonMobil intentionally pay only 3% on gas when many compe***ors, like Shell, pay 5%?

You would think that they would want to be more compe***ive in order for people to use their card.

And why DO people use a card with an inferior rebate?

    Several reasons for this :

    1. Most people do not take the time to compare different cards.

    2. Even if they did, it is not easy because they have to search from all over the web. (though it is easier now with review sites like this).

Do the following experiment : ask your friends what credit cards they have. If you know anything about credit cards, you will find that your friends could use a better one that either gives better rebates or reward points.

    3. Credit card companies know that and are able to get away with it.

Well, guess there are good credit cards and not so good credit cards! If everyone knew about the best deals, then credit card issuers will make less and we will get less good deals. Guess that was what happened with the Citi Dividend card!

That is the basic thing most people don't shop around and many just stay with what they have.
