No more Citi Dividend Platinum Select Card !!!
This is the letter I received from Citi a while ago :
============================================
With your Citi Dividend Card you can earn cash back on purchases, eligible cash advances and qualifying balance transfers. Effective October 13th, your Citi Dividend Card Reward Program is changing as follows:
- You will earn only 2% cash back on purchases made at supermarkets, drugstores and gas stations.
However, you will also earn 2% cash back on more purchases that may touch your everyday life, as we are adding convenience stores and utilities including cable,* to the above list.
So, as of October 13, you will earn 2% cash back on purchases made at supermarkets, drugstores, gas stations, convenience stores and utilities including cable.
Cash back is shown on your billing statement as Dividend Dollars. The following terms of the rewards program reimain the same, so you will continue to enjoy earning cash back on all types of transactions:
- 1% cash back on all other purchases...
- 1% cash back on cash advances...
- 5 Dividend Dollars for each balance transfer transaction of $1,500 or more...
- Redeem when you've earned 50 Dividend Dollars....
- Continue to earn a maximum of 300 Dividend Dollars in a calendar year... [text]
- Earn unlimited cash back with the Dividend Merchant Network...
Keep earning your current cash back on purchases until the above changes take effect. Remember, your Citi Dividend Card lets you earn cash back on all types of transactions that may touch your life every day. So, use your card to keep earning Dividend Dollars everywhere you shop.
Sincerely,
Kendall E. Stork, President and CEO
Citibank (South Dakota), N.A.
*Convenience stores are stand-alone merchants who sell a limited variety of food items. Utilities are defined as electric, gas power, water supply, refuse services, excluding telephone services. Cable is defined as satellite and other pay television and radio services.

Looks like the good days of earning 5% rebates on "everyday purchase" is over?
what now? any ideas ?[/b]

I got this letter too...
I also have the Discover Platinum Card which pays you 5% rebates for spending at certain merchants. Looks like the Blue cash pays 5% rebates on EDP, and would probably get this card.
What are the rest of you (who have the Citi Dividend) doing?
-
I have the HSBC drect rewards.
pays 5% on EDP. No tiers. Also have the costco card for shopping at costco and 3% for dining.
-
don't mind me asking, but what is EDP?
-
EDP = everyday purchase
usually refers to purchases made at supermarkets, gas stations and drugstores.
-
My citi dividend now only pays 2% on EDP + convenience stores and utilities (which includes cable). So I still keep this card and get 2% on my camcast and utilities.
I also have the discover gas card for gas and Blue for EDP (but have to spend above $6,500 to earn 5%).
As far as I know, this is the only card now that pays more than 1% on utilities.
any other better ideas for cash rebate combos?
-
I got the Blue Cash and Discover Platinum
Blue Cash = 5% EDP
Discover for 5% on getmore merhants..never had the Citi Dividend before.
-
I now have the Blue Cash after the Citi Dividend reduction. Am now thinking of a secondary card because of the tier structure in the amex blue cash.
-
I just posted this in another post, but Discover is now letting you earn 5% cashback on airlines, hotels, car rentals, cruises, amtrak trains and greyhound buses from jan 07 to mar 07. I have this card and though I exchange rewards for gift certificates, I thought I'd mentioned this promotion offer cos nobody talks about discover when it comes to cash rewards even though they have good offers from time to time.
