Upgrading Citi cards....

I have a Citi Gold card meaning I can get reduced mileage awards for 20K miles.

I need to book 4 tickets in the next few days, and am kicking myself for not having a Plat or Biz card which would allow me to redeem at 17.5K.

Is there a quick way to upgrade my card or get a new card? How does the AA desk verify Gold vs Plat?

(I also have a CIti bronze card...can this be upgraded?)
